Paint for Spring and Beyond

When you are in the market for a new home, look past the color of the walls. Paint is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to spruce up your space and make you smile every time you walk into that newly painted room. If your current home needs a facelift, paint an accent wall or a whole room, add a new rug or piece of artwork, and presto! You have a whole new look that will brighten your outlook without a major renovation.

For 20 years, Pantone has announced a new Color of the Year. For 2021, a neutral, Ultimate Gray, and Illuminating, a sunny yellow, were paired to offer earthiness and optimism at the same time.

Sherwin Williams is another trusted source for all things color and quality paint products. This year’s color, Urbane Bronze, is a rich brown with grey and bronze undertones.

The trend toward biophilia, referring to the human need to connect to nature and other living things, is stronger than ever.  Both earthy and sophisticated, Urbane Bronze provides the perfect backdrop for natural wood and foliage. The color can be used indoors or outdoors and works well with the popular use of mixed metals. It is grounded in nature while making a statement, so it is perfect for an accent wall. A whole room painted with this color will become a sanctuary or retreat – think spa-like bathroom, cozy bedroom, or library. Bone white or light greys are good accent or trim colors that complement the strength of Urbane Bronze. A natural, muted green provides a more colorful accent.

Afraid of adding too much color? Look at home magazines, influencers, and interior designers for inspiration. Have fun experimenting with paint and you will be rewarded with a new look and feel that doesn’t break the bank.

URBANE BRONZE: Rooted in Nature

Tips from Sherwin Williams:

The type of paint you will use depends on how the room to be painted will be used and the type of finish you want. Interior paint is specifically formulated to provide:

·         Scrub ability and stain resistance

·         Good hiding ability

·         Good coverage

·         Spatter resistance

·         Easy touch-up

Latex or Oil?

Interior house paints are either latex- or oil/alkyd-based. Today, most oil-based paints are made with synthetic resins (alkyds), which perform better than paints based on natural oils. Each has different characteristics and uses. Your neighborhood Sherwin-Williams paint expert can provide advice about which paint is right for your project.

Latex – Get the longest-lasting finish with the best gloss retention. Sherwin-Williams latex paints are easy to work with, dry quickly and are extremely durable. Latex paints clean up easily with soap and water.

Oil / Alkyd– Good adhesion, excellent durability and stain resistance make Sherwin-Williams oil/alkyd-based paints excellent choices for trim in high-traffic rooms, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Clean paint tools with mineral spirits.
