Holiday Magic in Downtown Parker

Decorating and celebrating the holidays are filled with anticipation and in most years, a whirlwind of activities consume our time and attention. My calendar is usually filled to the brim with parties, open house drop-ins, and events galore.

While our days and nights might not be as busy leading up to Christmas, this can be the year to soak up the wonders of the season around us, instead of just rushing by.  The town of Parker has been ranked No. 2 by Money.com on its 2020 Best Places to Live in America list, and the holiday season will give you just one glimpse of why this community is such a special place. Walk or drive down Mainstreet in downtown Parker and you will instantly be transported into your very own version of a Hallmark movie. Revel in the hometown charm and the oversized outdoor decorations that will make you smile. You might spy a prancing Rudolf, dancing tree or mischievous Buddy the Elf. Pick up a gift at The LOCAL to mail to those on your out-of-town gift list and share a piece of Colorado. For some winter fun, head to Discovery Park for a few laps around the Ice Trail at Discovery Park on the east end of town at the Parker Ice Trail.  After working up an appetite, stop for a bite or libation on the outdoor patio of the newest kid on the dining block Black Haus Tavern.  If you need to warm up, you can dine in your very own ice fishing tent (heater included!) at West Main Taproom + Grill.

With more time on their hands, this is the year to start a tradition of giving. Let your kids research a charity and write down why it is important to them. Contributing to an organization kids are passionate about will foster a spirit of giving that will stay with them for a lifetime.

More Christmas trees have been purchased this year than ever before. Families that were traveling in past years now have the time and energy to decorate their own tree. Trends are ranging from fresh-cut trees to artificial trees in all colors of the rainbow including pink, silver and even blue. A tree can evoke fond childhood memories and become part of a tradition for your own children.

Traditions can be shared virtually too! Connecting with friends and family on a video call can keep connections alive and strong. Schedule a cookie making session or game night to lift everyone’s spirits.
